Common Stretch Film Wrapping Mistakes That Cause Load Damage & Waste

2026-09-20
Most pallet packaging instability and film waste are not caused by product quality problems but by irregular wrapping operations. In actual industrial packaging scenarios, improper tension control, unreasonable stretching ratio, insufficient overlapping width, and blind high-speed operation are the four core mistakes that lead to cargo displacement, film breakage, and increased packaging costs. Mastering standardized wrapping specifications can reduce film waste by over 30% and lower transit cargo damage rate effectively.

1. Unreasonable Pre-Stretch Ratio: Excessively high pre-stretch will destroy the molecular structure of the stretch film, resulting in fatigue failure and tension attenuation after wrapping. Too low stretching leads to excessive film consumption and loose load bundling. The industry standard pre-stretch range for conventional hand and machine-use stretch film is 150%–250%. Exceeding the limit will cause delayed cracking during transportation.
2. Insufficient Edge Overlap: Many operators ignore edge overlap to pursue efficiency. When the overlapping width is less than 10%, the film layer cannot form an integral wrapping structure, resulting in lateral load shift during bumpy transportation. The optimal overlapping range for pallet wrapping is 50%–70% to ensure overall structural tightness.
3. Unstable Tension Output: Long-term unattended operation of automatic winding equipment leads to aging tension parts and uneven tension output. Excessive local tension causes film piercing at sharp corners, while insufficient tension leads to loose middle layers. Regular equipment calibration is essential to maintain constant tension wrapping.
4. Ignoring Environmental Adaptation: Using standard film in extreme high and low temperature environments without switching adaptive models is the key cause of seasonal packaging failures. Universal stretch film cannot resist high-temperature glue migration and low-temperature brittleness, requiring targeted product replacement in different seasons.
Standardized wrapping operation is the core premise of stable packaging quality. Correct parameter setting and environment-adaptive matching can maximize the performance of stretch film, realize cost reduction and efficiency improvement for enterprise packaging.
